Calculate Schedule C net income and self-employment tax (15.3%) for 2026. Includes deductible portion.
Calculates your 2026 self-employment tax based on Schedule C net income. Applies the 92.35% adjustment factor, then computes Social Security (12.4% up to $176,100 wage base) and Medicare (2.9%, no cap). Also calculates your deductible portion.
Use this when you're self-employed (1099, freelancer, small business owner) and need to estimate your SE tax for quarterly payments or year-end planning. Also useful when deciding between S-Corp and sole proprietorship.
Net Income = Business Income - Expenses. SE Taxable = Net Income × 92.35%. Social Security = min(SE Taxable, $176,100 - W-2 wages) × 12.4%. Medicare = SE Taxable × 2.9%. Total = SS + Medicare. Deductible = Total × 50%.
The 15.3% rate surprises many first-time freelancers. The deductible portion reduces your AGI, which slightly lowers your income tax. If your W-2 wages already hit the $176,100 cap, you only pay Medicare on self-employment income.
This calculator does not include the 0.9% Additional Medicare Tax for high earners ($200k single / $250k married). For complex business structures (S-Corp, Partnership), consult a CPA. This is an estimate for planning only.
